Project Plans
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who'd played our game and for all the kind comments. It was thrilling seeing other people experience this project in person.
So, what now? You might've noticed that this is a demo- vertical slice even, leading onto a bigger concept.
However as a team, at this time we have no plans to produce the final *full* game. We've changed so much since the first pitch that we would have to reevaluate the whole project as it is now and that's more work than we're currently willing to do, especially when we have a perfectly scaled-down demo on our hands.
That said, the work on the demo isn't over! We do have plans to perfect the existing demo in June!
Due to the deadline this project had, there's a bunch of bugs and missing features that we just ran out of time to implement.
Here's what we're looking to add or change:
- Varying fish colours! Currently, they're all in one shade without varying patterns. Their materials are actually set up to accommodate for variety but didn't have the time to make it apply to fish randomly.
- Main menu bugfix! Currently, the menu is fussy with mouse clicks, we're working on that one.
- Eel tweaks! He's a bit jittery at the minute...
- Camera tweaks! You might see sometimes the camera jumps jarringly between scenes, we're aiming to minimize this. During the play party we also found some people were getting stuck at the shrine where the camera would leave the Abyssian behind making it hard for players to get back in frame, that will get fixed.
- More fish! We want to populate the ocean a bit more. Currently, there's only 2 types of fish, they're all edible, and they're all on the same level as the Abyssian. We want to have other fish that swim on different heights from our protagonist.
- Optimization! If you run this game on anything that isn't a gaming/game development spec computer, it most likely struggle. Seeing sections of the environment rendering in real-time on the university computers was mortifying. We knew our optimization wasn't good but didn't know it was -that- bad. Work is being made to remedy this as we want everyone to be able to access our game in the way it was intended!
- Sound tweaks! There's a bunch of whale sounds we didn't quite get to implement. Name an eating sound -nom-
- Subtitle changes. We originally wanted the ability to change to a dyslexia-friendly font or at least so change it's size. Getting this to work means rewriting the subtitle system manually so it's a 50/50 if it'll happen.
- Any more! There will no doubt be more sea related clutter and drastic changes happening, so stay tuned!
